Georges Blum and Laurent Philippe created their first eclectic mix of French home antique furnishings called The Butler & The Chef in San Francisco in 1998.
Initially located on 25th street @ 3rd street, the new 6000 square feet showroom is now conveniently situated on Utah street @ 16th street, in the heart of South Of Market (SOMA), the flourishing San Francisco Design District for Antique Dealers. The expanding SOMA neighborhood is developing its cultural life around the San Francisco Design Center with numerous galleries and design destinations attracting the design conscious crowd.
Traveling throughout France, Georges and Laurent have carefully chosen each object, putting together an eclectic array of unusual antique furniture and collectibles that have meaning, to create a peculiar showroom with one of a kind items.
Specialized in antiques bar and kitchen furniture, the showroom provides an imaginative retail jaunt through the kitchen and bars of old France with a collection from the late 18th through 20th century.
A few of the choice furniture pieces include a 9 feet-30 year old replica of the Eiffel Tower, a 1932 art deco intricately-designed pewter-top bar, a marble pastry counter, many pristine butcher blocks from the 1880’s and original garden furniture.
The accessories include an array of French ceramics and glassware, vintage bottles and café carafes, copper pots and cauldrons, enamel metal cookware, signs, diamond cut metal boules, 19th century grape-pickers baskets and a fine selection of handmade French soaps.
The Butler & The Chef is the niche Mecca for collectors, interior designers, architects, boutique and restaurants owners who are looking for a combination of art, function and history at reasonable prices in unique, expressive pieces that have stood the test of time and remain sturdy and utilitarian.
